FDU Outfielder Hunter Ray Named NEC Player of the Year
Ray was tied for second in hits, ranked first in doubles, and third in batting average with the Stallions last season
FDU Knights and former Jersey Shore Stallions outfielder Hunter Ray was named NEC Player of the Year last Tuesday. Ray becomes the sixth player in FDU history, and first since 2012, to win the award.
The sophomore broke the FDU and NEC single-season record with 28 home runs while batting .352. Ray also recorded 75 RBIs, another FDU record and just five shy of the NEC's single-season record. The three-time NEC Player of the Week was the first Division I player to reach 20 homers and 20 stolen bases this spring. Ray finished the year swiping 24 bases in 27 attempts (.889) and earned first-team All-NEC honors.
Last summer with the Stallions, Ray was tied for second in hits (23), led Jersey Shore in doubles (6), and ranked third in batting average (.291). The Woodbine native also recorded seven RBIs and 12 stolen bases.
